Extend

Extend is a nationwide programme of chair-based exercise, for people who are physically challenged because of accident, joint replacement, arthritic conditions or illness. With an ageing population, local authorities are recognising the need to keep older people as active and healthy as possible. Specially trained teachers provide a varied programme which exercises all the joints and muscles in the body.

Wem Extend has been going for over three years and has had various venues in the town. We currently meet every Thursday at 2.15pm in the Methodist United Reformed Church. We started with a grant from North Shropshire District Council and now, as we are self funding, we pay £2 a week for an hour’s fun, conversation and exercise.

We have a brilliant teacher who is very aware of individual needs and provides a varied programme of music and movement which helps to improve balance, flexibility, breathing and rhythm. Some of us have been coming regularly since we were first encouraged to attend. We are a friendly group who make new members very welcome.
